TILE™ is a low-cost, turnkey virtual reality platform being developed by Tactus Technologies, with funding from the Institute for Education Sciences (IES), a division of the U.S. Department of Education. TILE stands for the Tactus Immersive Learning Environment.
Main Features:
- TILE will allow non-programmers to create robust virtual reality learning simulations for use in the classroom or lab in any K-12 school. By replacing the complicated software development process with a point and click GUI, TILE will enable the easy construction of VR titles.
- TILE will also support TCAVE, an optional low-cost, turnkey immersive VR system, where students can get a lifelike, 3D experience, feeling as if they're immersed in a virtual world. The system is comprised of 1 to 3 screens with rear-projected stereo images and 3D stereo goggles. Students wearing the goggles will experience a lifelike virtual experience, being able to, for example, stand in the middle of an atom and watch the electronics spin around, or ride virtual rollercoasters while they learn about potential and kinetic energy.
- Additionally, TILE titles can be run in the classroom, or in the school computer lab, allowing teachers to present lecture material in a virtual environment, and then assign students review sessions in the same environment.
